Spotify redefines what it means to be “verified”

July 14, 2026

Spotify has started changing the way it identifies artist profiles within the platform.

The former “Verified Artist” concept is now becoming “Registered Artist”, a label designed to make it clear that the profile has been claimed and is being managed through Spotify for Artists.

Spotify explains that this change aims to improve transparency for listeners and make the meaning of each label within the platform clearer.

Having a claimed, updated, and properly managed profile is part of the basic infrastructure behind any release.

This is where key elements that help organize a project’s identity come together: biography, images, links, concerts, merchandise, artist playlists, and access to insights through Spotify for Artists.

Spotify also introduced Verified by Spotify, a new authenticity signal for profiles that meet certain criteria around trust, activity, and artistic identity.

According to Spotify, this new badge is meant to show that the profile has been reviewed and meets authenticity criteria, in a context where distinguishing between real, fake, or AI-generated profiles has become more complex.

An incomplete, outdated, or unclaimed profile can make a release lose context, presence, and opportunities.

On the other hand, an organized profile helps audiences, editorial teams, partners, and platforms better understand who is behind the music.

Your artist profile is not just a page on Spotify.
It is part of your release infrastructure.
